Today we will make a brief summary about the competitor and winner of Mr. Olympia, Sergio Oliva. Who is also known as “The Myth”, he was a three-time winner of the Mr. Olympia trophy.
Oliva, a native of Cuba, was able to leave the island to devote himself fully to his career as a weightlifter. He was three consecutive champion: 1967, 1968 and 1969, where he defeated the famous Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“The Myth” nickname:
Was obtained thanks to his incredible physique, because once he showed his body, the females could not concentrate and the knights dreamed of being like him. He was one of the most aesthetic physicists of his time. Nowadays bodybuilders still try to emulate his physique. Due to his wide back, wide shoulders and small waist (the thinnest in Olympia history). He was truly a sight to behold.
A controversy appears in its history, since Oliva had to win the title in 1972 before Arnold Schwarzenegger, who accepted not to deserve the title that evidently was for Oliva.
Unfortunately, Oliva died in November 2012, at the age of 71, due to a kidney failure. His son, Sergio Iliva Jr. follows the legacy of his father. Actually, he has great shoes to fill, as he also dedicates himself to bodybuilding.
